11/28/07 - Marietta chiropractor wins 'carrot' for triathlete training
Some people have a hard time following their doctor's orders, but friends and patients of one Marietta
chiropractor find it easy to follow her lead.
For years, Susan Hooper has dispensed health and nutrition advice
to her patients at Oakbridge Chiropractic in Marietta. But when the
54-year-old grandmother began training for her first triathlon, her
drive and determination sparked quite a following.
"It just caught people's imagination," says Hooper, who encouraged
her patients to compete in the event, sent a newsletter to everyone
in her database and promoted it during networking events she
attended. "My enthusiasm is such that people started to think that
they can do it, too."
She also organized a kickoff interest meeting for anyone who
wanted to attend where professional coaches educated people about expectations and helped them set
realistic goals. A mobile body fat tester helped people check their health and fitness levels.
"Her energy is contagious," says Klara Menaker, a patient of Hooper's. "I think if she was jumping off a bridge,
I'd jump too."
